What’s special about the holiday season are the festive and unique wine cocktails we can easily make at home. They cost close to nothing and are the perfect drinks to serve at the gatherings because they are made with semi-sweet sparkling wine, so they’re light and not too overpowering. Here are our 3 favorites this holiday season:

Pumpkin Spice Is Nice – Combine ice, 1 ounce pumpkin liqueur or pumpkin vodka, and 1 ounce cream liqueur in a shaker. Strain into a glass. Add a semi-sweet sparkling Moscato wine to the glass. Sprinkle on a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon. Cheers!

Sparkling Peppermint Prosecco – melt chocolate chips in the microwave. Crush candy canes into tiny pieces. Dip rims of serving glasses into melted chocolate then candy cane bits. Place glasses upside down (to avoid chocolate dripping) on parchment paper in the fridge. When ready to serve guests, fill glasses with 1 part peppermint vodka, and 4-5 parts of Prosecco, a sparkling wine. Enjoy!

Sweet Red Wine Hot Chocolate – our twist on this classic is undeniable. Simmer ¼ cup of semi-sweet sparkling red wine over low heat to reduce the alcohol. In a separate bowl, combine 3 teaspoons of unsweetened dark cocoa powder, 4 teaspoons of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add 1 cup of milk. Mix this well before adding to your wine. Bring this mixture to a boil while frequently whisking it then serve!

The beauty of semi-sweet sparkling wines as mixers is that they are the star of the cocktail but still allow room for the additional ingredients to shine as well. Plus, when it comes to semi-sweet sparkling wine cocktails, there is a lot of leeway as to what can mix in – they’re so versatile to work with!
